Condition summary
Madman Across the Water vinyl: VG
Cleaned and fully play-tested. A tiny forward jump near the beginning of “Tiny Dancer” was eliminated through targeted cleaning and did not recur during the exact-section retest. Side two has audible background noise and a few pops, but the album sounds good overall.
Honky Château vinyl: VG — strong playback copy
Cleaned and fully play-tested. The record sounded great overall, with minor background noise and very few pops. No skips or repeats were reported.
Jackets
Honky Château is VG. Madman Across the Water includes its gatefold booklet; insert the final sleeve grade and specific visible wear after reviewing tonight’s photos.
Two landmark early-1970s Elton John studio albums presented together as one affordable vintage vinyl set: Madman Across the Water and Honky Château.
Madman Across the Water is an original 1971 U.S. UNI pressing manufactured at MCA’s Gloversville plant. The gatefold jacket retains its booklet. The record was cleaned and played completely before listing. A small forward jump near the beginning of “Tiny Dancer” disappeared after targeted cleaning and did not return during retesting. Side two has some audible background noise and occasional pops, but playback remains enjoyable overall.
Honky Château is a 1972 Capitol Record Club pressing manufactured at Capitol’s Jacksonville plant for UNI. It was also cleaned and fully play-tested. Playback sounded strong, with only minor background noise and very few pops and no reported skips or repeats.
Both records are conservatively graded VG. These are honest vintage playback copies rather than pristine archival examples. Exact jacket wear, labels, vinyl surfaces and booklet condition are shown in the listing photographs.
Play-tested in full on a mechanically isolated Sony automatic turntable fitted with an Audio-Technica diamond stylus, through a Polk Audio MagniFi Max surround system with wireless subwoofer and rear speakers.
The records will be placed in protective inner sleeves and removed from their jackets during shipping to reduce the risk of seam splitting.
